Diwali or Dipavali is a significant five day festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains.
It is also popularly known as the Festival of Lights. The word Dipavali literally translates as a row of lamps in Sanskrit. It is traditional to light small clay lamps filled with oil to signify victory over the evil within an individual.
Diwali is a very special day for the International College community as students from all nationalities participate in the cultural activities and become the part of very exciting celebrations.
The day's program began with the introduction of Diwali followed by the tradition of lighting of the Lamp by our Deputy Vice Chancellor of International and Future Students Professor John Rosenberg.
Due to the variety and diversity of Indian culture the highlight of the event was a fashion show. Eight student couples dressed up in traditional Indian attire from different states of India.
The sari happens to be the most versatile drape but the fashion show highlighted the amazing styles of draping and designs.
The beauty of the show was that the models were students from India, Sri Lanka, China, and Malaysia, Zimbabwe and Vietnam and the girls looked stunning and gorgeous while the boys looked very handsome.
There were Bollywood dances performed by LTUIC and LTU students where the music and the dances had everyone moving with rhythm in their chairs. The cheering and the whistles from the audience were non-stop.
The Director of LTUIC Mr Martin van Run gave a lovely speech thanking the students and the staff who participated for their time and hard work to make this event to remember.
All staff and students were dancing to the Bollywood music played by DJ Yaths, and the catering was done by Cafe Spice in Agora.
The event was well appreciated by students, staff and the dignitaries who attended the function.
