Bus travel to La Trobe University's Bundoora Campus will soon be easier and more affordable thanks to upcoming travel zone boundary changes, Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky announced recently.
Ms Kosky said from the start of November, many bus routes around Melbourne will have new zone boundaries that would be more consistent across the network and will better match nearby train services.
Ms Kosky said zone boundary changes on other local bus routes would provide further savings for passengers.
"People who travel on bus routes 246, 250, 340, 350 and 549 can now travel on a single zone Metcard between La Trobe University and Northland Shopping Centre and The Mall Shopping Centre," she said.
The Zone 1/2 overlap area will be extended on these bus routes southward from Southern Road to Bell Street.
"Now that you can travel further on a single zone Metcard, we expect the bus will become an even more popular transport option," Ms Kosky said.
Bus routes around La Trobe University to have their boundaries revised from 1 November 2009:
- Route 246 (Elsternwick - La Trobe University): Zone 1/2 overlap extended southward from Southern Road to Bell Street;
- Route 250 (Garden City - La Trobe University): Zone 1/2 overlap extended southward from Southern Road to Bell Street;
- Route 340 (City - La Trobe University): Zone 1/2 overlap extended southward from Southern Road to Bell Street;
- Route 350 (City - La Trobe University): Zone 1/2 overlap extended southward from Southern Road to Bell Street; and
- Route 549 (Ivanhoe - Northland): Zone 1/2 overlap extended southward from Southern Road to Bell Street.
