| Unit Description: | This unit comprises components in virology, medical bacteriology and molecular pathogenesis. The first component includes the biology and replication of animal viruses, viral pathogenicity and the control and treatment of virus diseases. The medical bacteriology component includes topics on the normal body flora, oral pathology, respiratory, enteric and sexually-transmitted diseases, mechanisms of pathogenicity, hypersensitivity and identification of disease and nosocomial infections. Molecular pathogenesis topics include a detailed analysis of how various bacteria (e.g. Helicobacter, Listeria, Legionella, Chlamydia), protozoa and fungi cause diverse diseases. The unit also includes topics on microorganisms causing contamination in food and those used in food production. |

| Prerequisites: | MIC2IM or AGR3ANH and MIC2MVM except for Bachelor of Medical Science students who have passed MIC2MVM |
