Unit Short Title:	JESUS: FACT OR FICTION ?

Unit Description:	In this subject students explore issues such as: are the Gospels the gospel truth? Is the Virgin birth story fact or fiction? Did Jesus really die on the cross? Is the Turin Shroud the shroud of Jesus? Was Jesus the wicked priest, as some scholars suggest, or the teacher of righteousness as others claim ? These questions and more, as well as the early spread of Christianity, will be explored in their historical context through the medium of modern scientific techniques, archaeological data, biblical and extra-biblical literature.
Prerequisites:	30 credit points of first-year history or a subject counting towards a religious studies sub-major
Class Requirements:	two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week. For a pass in this subject students must normally attend at least 80% of the tutorials
Work Experience Indicator:	Not undertaking work experience in industry
