Unit Short Title:	WINDOWS ON CONTEMPORARY EUROPE: CULTURES IN TRANSFORMATION

Unit Description:	In this students are introduced to the cultural manifestations of major socio-historical events in twentieth-century Europe which shaped life in countries such as France, Spain, Italy and Greece. Among issues to be examined are the roles and effects of the political Right and Left, wars, dictatorships, the relationship between Church and State, the changing role of women, tradition and modernity, migration, multiculturalism, and ethnic and cultural identities.
Class Requirements:	one 2-hour lecture/seminar and one 1-hour tutorial. For a pass in this unit students must normally attend at least 80% of the tutorials
