CIV2HYD, 2009
| Unit Code: | CIV2HYD |
| Unit Short Title: | HYDRAULICS |
| Credit Points: | 15.0 |
| Unit Description: | This unit introduces students to the concepts, knowledge and skills in fluid mechanics essential for an adequate understanding of fluid behaviour in engineering systems. Topics covered include properties of fluids, fluid static's (pressure and its measurement, hydrostatic force on plane and curved surfaces and equilibrium of floating bodies), principles of fluid flow analysis, concept of control volume and the measurement of flows through pipes and channels. Other topics include momentum principles, the forces on bends, etc., fluid machinery (pumps and turbines) types and performance characteristics., incompressible flow through pipes and ducts, steady uniform flow in channels and the concept of boundary layer, such as drag on bodies. |
