Special Conditions:Laboratory equipment to purchase: dissecting kit, labcoat, safety glasses. The BIO1OF practical manual and First Year Biology Survival Guide (2012 edition) are required for the first laboratory session and are available at the University bookshop or on library closed reserve.
Subject Description:BIO1OF is a first year core biology subject that covers the fundamentals of living things. It is a pre-requisite for most 2nd year biology subjects. Topics include the structure and function of cells and organisms, and aspects of the functioning of the cells of bacteria, plants and animals. It includes both a lecture and a practical component, and is conducted by staff from the Departments of Botany and Zoology (Melbourne Campus) and Environmental Management and Ecology (Albury-Wodonga Campus).
Prerequisites:Students from other faculties require approval by a Subject Adviser
