BIO1CO, 2012

Subject Code:BIO1CO
Subject Short Title:BIOLOGY OF CELL AND ORGANISM
Credit Points:15.0
Subject Description:In this subject, you are introduced to biology by discussing units of ever increasing size and complexity. We begin with molecules and cells, then proceed to tissues and organs in plants and animals, and how these units cooperate in the whole organism. Topics covered in lectures include cell and molecular biology, structure and function of animal and plants, Mendelian genetics as well as biological principles. The practical component focuses on biological observation, recording skills and data interpretation, and introduces a number of biological disciplines (eg microscopy, microbiology, biochemistry and physiology). Tutorials help re-enforce the lecture material, but also introduce new and interesting concepts.
Class Requirements:Three 1-hour lectures and a 2-hours of combined practical/tutorial work per week.
Work Experience Indicator:Student is not undertaking work experience in industry
Available to 'Study Abroad' students:Y
