Unit Short Title:APPROACHES TO ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Unit Description:In this subject students are introduced to the fundamental principles of archaeological research, and how research programs are designed and developed. Particular attention is given to practical and technical issues, especially those involved in decision and strategies in archaeological fieldwork. This involves following through the many decisions involved in designing and excavation from initial research design to publication, including the choice of particular field strategies, methods of recording and documentation and analysis and preparation of reports. This subject is designed for students wishing to make a career in archaeology and is a prerequisite for those wishing to enrol in Archaeology Honours, and is a core requirement of the Bachelor of Archaeology degree.
Prerequisites:at least 90 credit points of archaeology, or co-ordinator's approval
Class Requirements:one 3-hour workshop per week. For a pass in this subject students must normally attend at least 80% of the workshops
