| Unit Description: | Archaeology has played a key role in developing Australia's 'heritage industry', and in this subject we explore the current role of archaeological knowledge in our society. Students are introduced to the conceptual and procedural skills required to work effectively as a professional archaeologist. Students will review the development of cultural resource management, explore the role of archaeological knowledge in the cultural conservation process, including the main provisions of legislation and policy relating to archaeology in Australia, and the role and responsibilities of Indigenous communities, government departments and other stake-holders. |

| Class Requirements: | one 1-hour lecture and one 2-hour workshop per week. For a pass in this subject students must normally attend at least 80% of the workshops |
