Subject Description:The student is first introduced to key concepts in animal science, including animal breeding, biotechnology, nutrition, growth, reproduction, lactation, animal health, and animal welfare (weeks 1 - 8). The student then follows a second module (weeks 9 - 13), which varies according to their enrolled course. For Agricultural Science students the module covers the history and current situation of agriculture in Australia, climate and its impact on agricultural ecosystems, contemporary agricultural issues like sustainability, agriculture and environment, cropping systems, horticultural systems, and pastures. For Animal & Veterinary Biosciences students the module discusses companion animals, laboratory animals and management of wild animals.

Three 1-hour Lectures per week on weekdays during the day from week 10 to week 23 and delivered via face-to-face. (Week 2-8 content will be taught by reverse teaching, where lecture contact hours are designated for either self-study, interactive question-and-answer (tutorial) sessions, or quizzes.)
One 3-hour Laboratory Class per week on weekdays during the day from week 10 to week 23 and delivered via face-to-face. (Four half day field trips held during usual laboratory class time.)
