TravelSmart

TravelSmart is a behaviour change program which helps people reduce their dependency on the car and choose sustainable travel alternatives.

The TravelSmart program at the Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus prompted 11 percent of enrolling students in 2005 to switch to more sustainable forms of transport. This has increased the share of green travel mode use at the Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus to around 60 percent.

In 2005 TravelSmart also determined that La Trobe University could save $2 million each year with a drop of just 10 percent in single occupant vehicle travel among staff at the Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus. (If you carpool just one day each week, you're reducing your commuting impact by 20 percent!).

For more information, visit the Victorian Government's TravelSmart website.

La Trobe University's Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus has a number of fantastic options for travelling to and from the University sustainably.

Transport Information
  • Travel by public transport

The Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus is serviced by 11 buses, two trains and one tram. If you're studying at La Trobe, catching public transport instead of driving to University could save you over $2000 each year.

  • Travel by cycling and walking

Cycling is the most efficient mode of transport known to man, and walking is not far behind. There are a number of great cycling and walking routes in and around the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. Pop into Contact or the Traffic and Parking Office to receive a free TravelSmart map of cycling and walking routes in the area.

  • Travel by carpooling

Carpooling is a fantastic way to reduce stress, save money and make new friends! Join up to the La Trobe University Carpool Service to receive free matching with other La Trobe people in your area. We have over 4500 members so it's nearly always possible to find people who live in the same suburb as you and sometimes even the same street. A carpooling permit gives you priority car parking in some of the best car parks around the University.
