La Trobe's Great Transport Experiment
Join the transport experiment and win a Go Pro camera
La Trobe's Great Transport Experiment asks you to weigh up the pros and cons of the different ways of getting to and from La Trobe's Melbourne campus. This means experiencing an alternative way of travelling to university. Compare this to your usual mode of transport and you could win some great prizes.
- Win great prizes including your choice of Bluetooth speakers (RRP approx $180) OR a $180 book voucher for The Co-op bookshop.
- The grand prize winner will take home a Go Pro (RRP approx $469).
Three easy parts to the experiment
The experiment has three parts:
1. Use an alternative way to travel to the University such as:
- Public transport
- Public transport, as many types as you like (e.g. tram and train, train and bus)
- Cycling (or anything on two or three wheels)
- Walking
- Carpooling with others
- Flexicar
- The full combo (a mix of the above travel options or your own original travel plan).
2. Compare this to your usual way of getting to the campus, including time taken, challenges and frustrations, the ability to 'do other things' and the real costs involved. The more specific your comparison, the better.
3. Fill out the entry form with your details by 5.00 pm Monday 8 April 2013.
There are fabulous prizes for outstanding entries in these categories:
- Best transport route (fastest, cheapest, most reliable)
- Best mix of transport modes (tram, train, bus, walk, bike)
- Best carbon footprint reduction*
- Most interesting travel story.
There is also a Grand Prize for the 'Smartest Traveller' overall (selected out of all of the above categories).
Winners will be announced by 30 April 2013.
* Use these calculators to figure out your carbon footprint: car use carbon calculator and public transport use carbon calculator. Base your calculation on a return trip (there and back) to uni.
