Mousing Around: Introduction to Computers (Course code WMA31C)

This 1/2 day course provides course participants with hands-on practice with Windows XP 2003, Word and Excel.

This workshop is not limited to the topics listed below. The participants will be able to request that various topics will be covered and are encouraged to bring along problems from the workplace. Should the participants have a higher skill level the course will be amended to cater for that. The workshop introduces the learner to the fundamental elements of Windows XP. It also explores basic Word processing and Excel spreadsheets and those environments.

Course prerequisites
  • Participants need no prior knowledge of computers. It is ideal for new users and people transferring from Apple Macintosh.

  • Moving and copying text
  • Formatting characters and paragraphs
  • Proffing and printing documents
Course objectives

Participants who complete this course should know how to:

  • Explain and move around in the XP, Word/Excel environments
  • Utilise basic mouse functions
  • Create, save and close documents and use the Help system
  • Select text, copy and move text
  • Basic formatting
  • Use the Spelling & Grammar checks; preview and print a document
