Dreamweaver: La Trobe Templates v.3 Site Structure

Description

Version 3 (v.3) template training is intended for those who are creating new websites or redeveloping existing sites. The v.3 templates cannot simply be applied to sites that are currently using v.2 templates.

Although the training environment uses Dreamweaver version CS4, the skills are easily transferrable to the previous version (CS3) and even to the earlier Macromedia Dreamweaver version 8.

Version 3 templates include added functionality such as breadcrumbs to aid navigation and the use of Dreamweaver snippets for more flexible site development. Accessibility and usability have been improved by using the latest coding methods and design modifications.

In order to gain the full skill set required for creating/redeveloping a website using v.3 templates, you must attend this session as well as Dreamweaver: La Trobe Templates v.3 Web Pages

Course Prerequisites

Participants must be able to use a PC competently to:

  • Manage Files and Folders
  • Access Server Resources
  • Switch Between Open Applications (e.g. MS Word and Dreamweaver)
  • Copy and Paste Between Applications

Participants must also be experienced in using Dreamweaver and should have completed one of the following courses or have equivalent experience:

Template Versions:

A site that is already using v.3 templates can be seen at www.latrobe.edu.au/accommodation/bundoora
Formal Version 2 templates training has been discontinued. Please contact Online Services (onlineservices@latrobe.edu.au) if you are required to maintain a v.2 site.

Version 4 templates were launched in March 2008 as part of the Web Repositioning Project. They are only to be used for external-facing sites, within the University’s content management system (CMS, or ‘Matrix’). The v.4 templates are not available for use with Dreamweaver sites.

For advice on your website redevelopment and whether you should be attending v.3 template training, please contact the Web Team Manager on ext 1762.
