Why study with us?

Gain a competitive advantage

The Tourism, Hospitality, Sport and Leisure industries play a major role in employment in Victoria and Australia. Globally, the Tourism and Hospitality industries are estimated to employ one in every nine workers worldwide. Our preoccupation with sport is evident by the 7 million members of Australia’s peak industry sporting body, Sport Industry Australia.

To cope with growth and the increasing complexity of these industries there is a strong expectation that those in management positions will have tertiary qualifications. It is within this climate of strong industry growth and increasing demand for skilled and educated managers that the La Trobe School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management has developed and expanded its programs.
Students who study with us identify their passion and we help them to turn it into a career!

Practical and relevant

All students complete a Business degree with a choice of specialisation. This equips students with the necessary business and service skills to move in to a professional career. Elective industry practicum units are available which allows students the opportunity to work in real settings alongside managers within the relevant industry.

Personalised learning and support

Our size allows for personalised learning and support. Each semester we run a fun and informative ‘Commencement Seminar’ to ease the transition into life at La Trobe. We also have staff dedicated to language and academic skills assistance to ensure all students can gain the necessary support to progress through their degree.

Study overseas

The school encourages students who are in second or third year of their course to include an international experience as part of their degree through the exchange program. This allows students the opportunity to live, work and study in a country of their choice for a semester. Many of our students have studied in Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Thailand, Sweden, UK and the USA.

A focus on careers

Regular contact with industry means the School can organise both paid and unpaid employment opportunities for our students, to gain industry experience and form strong networks prior to graduating. Students are kept up-to-date with the latest opportunities with regular emails and notices around the school.
