La Trobe Organising the Fifth International Tourism and Media Conference
After a successful conference last year in Prato, Italy, the Fifth Internal Conference on Tourism and Media Conference (ITAM) is being organised by La Trobe at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in November, 2011. A collaborative partnership between La Trobe and Monash Universities, the aim of ITAM is to advance the overall knowledge of the relationship between tourism and media through innovative research presentations and discussions.
Over the years, the conference has encouraged and facilitated collaborations among participants and has resulted in three Special Editions of journals, with two more currently in-press. Topics studied include film-induced tourism, novels and tourism, guidebooks, film studio theme parks, the Korean Hallyu, Italian wine and media, media and the Italian dream, travel journalism and so on, with participants from around the world. New research and participants are welcome to contribute to this discussion, especially from the media field.
Holding the conference at ACMI is an exciting development as much of the work presented at ITAM relates to moving images and tourism, from movies and television through to DVDs, animation and other forms of moving images. Participants will be able to access the exhibitions at ACMI as well as have the potential to develop collaborative relationships with the centre.
The Call for Papers (extended abstracts) has been released, with the main dates:
Conference dates: 28-30 November, 2011
Abstracts due: 31 July, 2011
