Whats Changed?

Audience for this Document

This document is intended for La Trobe University staff who have used Turnitin prior to 2nd Semester 2009, before the Turnitin/LMS PowerLink was implemented.

What’s Changed?

  • Basically, very little has actually changed. The Turnitin/LMS Powerlink creates a link from your subject in the LMS to the Turnitin website, so rather than browsing to turnitin.com you just select the Content Link from your LMS subject.
  • Any staff member wishing to use Turnitin from 2nd Semester 2009 will be required to use it via the LMS. This is intended to reduce the demand on dwindling human and technological resources. However, if you have a compelling reason to want to use Turnitin directly, without the LMS, contact A.Waterson@latrobe.edu.au with Turnitin Use in the subject line.
  • Existing Turnitin accounts will remain unchanged and you and your students can continue to access them using current procedures. NOTE: If you have a pre-existing Turnitin account, you won’t be able to access your existing Assignment Inboxes via the PowerLink.
  • Staff will no longer be required to Create a Class in Turnitin. This process will be handled automatically by the Turnitin/LMS Powerlink.
  • Students will no longer be required to create their own profile at Turnitin. This process will be handled automatically by the Turnitin/LMS Powerlink.
  • Previously, as students created a profile at Turnitin, a class list was generated and updated. With the PowerLink, the classlist now reflects the student list in the LMS Grade Book and student data now appears in the Turnitin Assignment Inbox as each student accesses it. To automatically import the student list into the Turnitin Assignment Inbox before students access the assignment or submit papers, you can synchronise the assignment roster. To do this, click the Roster Sync Button. This will import a list of all students currently enrolled in your LMS Subject into your Turnitin Assignment Inbox.
