La Trobe has invested in a range of online technologies that offer a wide range of benefits, as well accompanying risks. The Learning Management System (LMS), at the most basic level, offers students convenience, access to resources and a focal-point for study and communication with peers. The LMS and other technologies can also be used in more sophisticated ways to expand the range of pedagogy, the range of student needs and contexts (demographics) that can be accommodated and even the number of students that can be taught, given appropriate curriculum design to achieve the desired outcomes.
All staff are encouraged to prepare technology adoption well in advance and to consult widely with the Flexible and Online Learning Development (FOLD) group, Faculty Educational Designers and Curriculum and Academic Developers of the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Centre to assist with subject and course design.
