I took up this role in January 2008, excited to be involved in the new strategic directions that have been agreed for the University. My disciplinary background is in economics and politics, and I taught sociology and social policy at Murdoch and Monash Universities.
After experience as a Head of School and Dean, I took up my first Teaching and Learning role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Western Australia, becoming a founding Director of the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
I sincerely hope to see La Trobe recognised as a University that offers one of the best educational experiences in Australia. The University’s Strategic Plan sets ambitious goals for teaching and learning to make this a reality, and I look forward to working with you to achieve them.
The Role
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor has overall responsibility for the planning, quality and delivery of the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs. The DVC works closely with the Deans, and the portfolio also encompasses academic support units such as the Library and the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Centre. In ensuring the quality of our teaching programs, the DVC works in close consultation with the Academic Board.
