Teaching awards

La Trobe University supports teaching and learning through a range of awards. These university awards are designed to link in with the Australian Learning and Teaching Council awards programs. This page has an overview of the awards, with links to further information. Each different award type has its own application process.

Staff wishing to apply for awards should also seek assistance from Dr Judith Lyons or Dr David Hirst in the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Centre.

Awards Dates

La Trobe University Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

La Trobe University awards up to ten citations each year to people who have made an outstanding contribution to student learning in a specific area of responsibility, over a sustained period. Individuals or teams of academic or general staff may apply.

Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence

Each year, up to three Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching are awarded to either individuals or teams who have shown excellence in their teaching and have made outstanding contributions to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching at La Trobe University.
Individuals or teams may self-nominate and/or be nominated by current students or colleagues.

ALTC Awards and Citations

The Australian Learning and Teaching Council has awards to promote excellence in teaching and learning. The five types of awards include:

  • Prime Minister's Award
  • Career Achievement Award

John Edwards Online Learning Award

An annual award is available for a La Trobe University staff member (academic or general) who demonstrates best practice in an online learning environment. The award was donated by Mr John Edwards, a long-standing, former Director of Information Technology Services at the University. Further details, please contact Sally Went, Office of the DVC.
