Field experience C
Lecturer: Brendan Munge
One of the major assessment tasks in this subject is ‘the Long Walk,’ – a demanding eighteen-day walk in the Australian high country to mark the transition between first and second year.
Students begin preparing for the walk in second semester of first year, completing an action plan and SWOT analysis. The action plan is shared online, allowing the lecturer and a student partner to monitor progress and provide feedback. This is both part of the course assessment and an important safety element, ensuring that each student is prepared physically and emotionally to undertake the walk.
Students also create an electronic research portfolio, building an interactive portal that engages other students with a topic related to the walk. Students assemble in-text links and digital media to present a piece of work that has value well beyond the assessment process.
