Vice-Chancellor's Fellow

In early 2012, La Trobe appointed former AFL coach Mick Malthouse to develop and support the University’s leadership and sports programs, including programs in popular courses such as Sports Journalism, Sports Management, Physiotherapy and Podiatry.

‘Individual, organisational and community leadership have been core to my professional life and are also a major part of the success of students and local communities,’ says Mr Malthouse, who joins La Trobe as the University is expecting an increase in student numbers from cohorts that are under-represented in higher education.

These students will require different forms of access, support and motivation if they are to succeed in higher education and will need to believe that a university is a place where they feel comfortable and where they will be able to succeed. Mr Malthouse will be a key leader of these programs.
