For synchrotron users at La Trobe
How to access the Australian Synchrotron
Members of La Trobe University can choose from different routes of access to the Australian Synchrotron
- Preferred access (Foundation investor time)
- Merit based access via peer review
- Rapid access
Preferred and merit based access times are scheduled three times a year following proposal calls. Applications for preferred access are reviewed by La Trobe’s Synchrotron Panel. Merit based proposals are reviewed by the Australian Synchrotron.
Rapid access is a special scheme, independent of the general proposal calls. Schedules and opportunities are published on the Australian Synchrotron’s websites.
Proposals are directly submitted to the Australian Synchrotron through a dedicated web portal.
A proposal template is available in the download section; this template was compiled from selected information provided on the web portal.

Please note that we require a short report for all experiments using preferred access (Foundation Investor time). You are welcome to use the pro forma provided in the download section. Please send your report by email to Andrew Peele or Peter Kappen.
