About Us
The Australian Synchrotron was officially opened on 31 July 2007. The Synchrotron is a $207 million facility ($157 million funded by the State of Victoria and $50 million by the Foundation Investors, including La Trobe University) and has an initial suite of nine experimental facilities (beamlines). These beamlines have been brought into routine user operation and one further beamline is currently under construction and commissioning.
La Trobe University is a Foundation Investor of the Australian Synchrotron, making a substantial commitment by signing up for a $2.5 million five-year beamline partnership in association with a group of South Australian universities.
The Synchrotron Program at La Trobe University aims to promote and support synchrotron activities to researchers and students from all campuses at the university. We can advise or assist you with accessing the Australian Synchrotron or other synchrotron light sources.
For more information about synchrotrons and synchrotron light, see the Australian Synchrotron website.
