Our new campus

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dewar officially opens Sydney Campus

La Trobe University Sydney Campus was a hive of activity on 20 July. Students, staff, alumni, as well as representatives from the government and media joined the Vice-Chancellor to celebrate the official opening of the new $10 million campus.

Guests toured the new campus and experienced the technology-enhanced learning spaces which automatically record lectures for students to watch at home.

“Students are voting with their feet and La Trobe University’s presence in Sydney is growing strongly. We want to attract the cream of Sydney’s future business leaders, so are offering our students a great new space, featuring cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art facilities to enhance their learning,” Professor Dewar said.

“The campus has been designed with the modern student in mind. Add all the other vital elements, such as the quality of teaching, our strong links with business and the ability to fast-track a degree, and you have a great recipe for student success.”

Joining Professor Dewar to cut the ribbon during the ceremony was La Trobe business student, Khung Thai and Navitas CEO of University Partnerships Australiasia, John Wood. Mr Khung felt honoured to represent the student body and participate in the campus opening celebrations.

“Taking part in the opening ceremony meant a great deal to me, as La Trobe is very important to me,” said Mr Khung. “La Trobe University gave me a second chance as well as many opportunities to develop and discover who I am.”

“I love La Trobe and I hope that all the new students who study at the Sydney Campus can experience and gain as much as I have by being here.”
