Sustainability research

We currently have research and research centres at La Trobe which look into prevalent environmental and sustainability areas.

Agribioscience and the Environment

Affiliated organisational areas include the Biosciences Research Centre, the CRC for Plant Biosecurity, the CRC for Molecular Plant Breeding, the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre, the Centre for Sustainable Regional Communities as well as Departments/Programs including Botany and Zoology

Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre

The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre (MDFRC) is a multi-disciplinary research centre whose work includes; environmental flows; nutrient cycles; algal, fish and invertebrate ecology; macro- and micro-invertebrate taxonomy; water quality assessment through biological and chemical monitoring programs. Biosciences Research Centre

The Biosciences Research Centre (BRC) will accommodate up to 400 staff, including scientists and support staff from DPI, La Trobe University and the private sector.The facility will help to protect the State's $8.7 billion agricultural sector and will strengthen Victoria's international reputation for agricultural research and diagnostics. The Bushfire CRC

The Bushfire CRC is conducting a range of research projects that collectively aim to enhance the management of the bushfire risk to the community in an economically and ecologically sustainable way. Visit The Bushfire CRC website for more information.

Sustainable Tourism CRC

Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) was established under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres program in 1997, and has grown to be the largest dedicated tourism research organisation in the world. In consultation with a broad cross section of stakeholders, STCRC undertakes research into the strategic challenges facing Australian tourism and produces reports, information, tools and products to improve business practices and inform policy development. EC3 Global

EC3 Global is STCRC’s subsidiary commercialisation and consulting company for the development and delivery of commercial research outcomes to industry. EC3 Global is an internationally recognised environmental advisory group which provides industry with a comprehensive range of products and services to achieve sustainability targets. eWater
