La Trobe Institute for Social and Environmental Sustainability

The La Trobe Institute for Social and Environmental Sustainability takes a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability research. There is an enormous amount of research looking at issues of sustainability at La Trobe University, ranging from fish monitoring for freshwater ecology to the ways that people's worldviews and values affect their attitude to the environment.

The institute has three research themes:

  • water, natural sciences and land management
  • community resilience, health and social justice
  • sustainability governance, measurement and corporate social responsibility.

The Institute recently release its findings into 3 research workshops held in February 2011 on current sustainability research at the University and the future opportunities for research in the fields above.

Sustainable Development: Beyond Carbon

Melbourne Marriott Hotel:  21 February 2012

The La Trobe Institute for Social and Environmental Sustainability invites you to a Business Forum.

Sustainable development is being corralled by the carbon accounting debate, but it needs to engage with issues much broader than concerns about carbon emissions. Organisations have the opportunity to contribute to other environmental imperatives and social issues whilst maintaining their social licence to operate.

The Forum will bring together experts in sustainable development from industry and academia to provide insight into achieving long term improvement outcomes for society and institutions.
