CLIMATE FUTURES: PLANNING FOR RISK AND UNCERTAINTY (PLA4CFD)

Trees and LakesIn this subject students explore the implications of emerging climate models on the patterns of settlement and land use and the development of communities both in Australia and internationally. Increasingly it has become evident that changes to climate will influence patterns of urban and rural land use and investment, reflecting new directions in transport, buildings, urban form, water use and management and agricultural systems. The risks and mitigation models presented by models of climate change locally and globally also present significant challenges to patterns of land and resource management and population movement, particularly in the developing world. The policy response to climate change also presents opportunities for new forms of land use, and new markets for landholders, among others. Emerging models of energy production and the spatial distribution of economic opportunities will offer new challenges for land use policy, community development and planning practice.
