Office of the PVC Sustainability
In 2010, La Trobe University announced the creation of the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability).
Replacing the Sustainability Taskforce that had existed in 2009, the Office is behind La Trobe’s determination to make sustainability central to everything we do.
Climate Change, unsustainable resource use and increasingly inequitable access to the benefits of economic development are some of the major challenges that must be tackled on a global scale. Issues of sustainability and social responsibility will affect everyone’s career in the future.
La Trobe University will play a transformative role through the leadership of the Office of the PVC (Sustainability). We aim to make a difference.
The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability) is responsible for:
- reporting on social, environmental and economic sustainability impacts/performance
- leading and monitoring the incorporation of socially and environmentally sustainable practices into all aspects of operations, curricula, teaching, learning, research and policies at La Trobe University
- leading the development of the University’s strategic and operational sustainability plan
- managing the University’s sustainability budget
- advising on social and environmental aspects of operational and capital budgets.
In October 2011, La Trobe won the ‘Continuous Improvement – Institutional Change’ award at the 2011 Green Gown Australia awards for the development of its Best Practice Sustainability Governance and Management structures, which began in 2009. Read the media release.
