How do I get my offer?
VTAC and UAC make offers available:
- on the VTAC or UAC websites (in January and again at mid-year)
- in The Age or The Herald Sun, if you gave VTAC permission (January only)
- in Sydney Morning Herald or the Daily Telegraph, if you are a UAC applicant (January only).
How do VTAC or UAC decide which course I will be offered?
Places are offered in a series of 'rounds', with most offers coming out in January each year.
- You can only get one offer each round
- Your offer will be for the highest course on your preference list that you met all the requirements for (prerequisites and a competitive ATAR)
- If you get your highest preference in the first round, you won't receive another offer
- If you change your mind, you may be able to change your preferences before the next round.
VTAC Early Round offers come out before the majority of offers in Round 1.
You may get an early round offer if you:
- are not currently in year 12
- paid your application fees by the Early Round deadline
- applied by the 'timely' application deadline
- provided all your documentation by the Early Round deadline.
If you do receive an Early Round offer, you will still be considered in Round 1 for any courses that are higher on your preference list (regardless of whether or not you accept your offer).
La Trobe University participates in UAC offer round in September, October, November and December for Non-Year 12 applicants.
Round 1 is when most people receive their offer. If you don't get your highest preference in this round, you may still be considered for offers in Round 2.
Accepting your Round 1 offer doesn't exclude you from a Round 2 offer for a course higher on your preference list. It's important to accept your Round 1 offer to secure your place at uni because many courses fill up and aren't available in Round 2.
You may receive an offer in Round 2 if you:
- didn't get an offer in Round 1; or
- you are eligible for a course higher on your VTAC preference list than the course you were offered in Round 1.
Many courses fill up in Round 1, so Round 2 offers are limited.
The Main Round is when most people receive their offer. If you don't get your highest preference in this round, you may still be considered for offers in further rounds in January and February.
Accepting your Main Round doesn't exclude you from January Round 3 offers, for any courses on your preference list that are higher than your Main Round offer.
It is important to accept your first offer to secure your uni place because many courses fill up and don't go to further rounds.
Further UAC rounds
You may receive an offer in January or February for courses higher on your preference list than the course you were offered in previous rounds.
You can change your preferences between each round.
Courses can fill up in the Main Round, and many courses will not be able to make any further offers.
Graduate entry teaching rounds
If you applied for a graduate entry teaching place, your offers will come out at different times to the other courses.
Get more information on graduate entry teaching offers.
How do I accept my offer?
To accept your offer, follow the instructions in the enrolment email you receive from La Trobe University. This email usually comes on the same day as your VTAC or UAC offer.
What if I miss out?
I didn't get an offer in Round 1 or Main Round
If you don't get an offer in Round 1 or Main Round, you can contact us to talk about your options.
Applicants may be considered for further January and February rounds, and may choose to change their preferences after the Main Round.
I didn't get the course I wanted in Round 1 or Main Round
We recommend you secure a uni place by accepting the first offer you get. You may get another offer in later rounds to a course higher on your preference list.
If you don't get another offer later rounds, contact us to talk about your options. For example, you may be able start uni in the course you are offered and transfer into your preferred course later.
What if I don't get any offers?
We recommend that when you apply through VTAC, you indicate interest in supplementary offers, or 'clearing house' offers in UAC. This lets us offer you a place in another course that isn't on your preference list.
If you don't indicate interest supplementary offers or clearing house offers before the deadline, you still have options. Contact us to talk about pathways to uni including doing a single subject first, getting a TAFE qualification and transferring, or doing a university preparation course.
Indicate an interest in supplementary or clearing house offers when you apply to VTAC or UAC to get a uni place even if you miss out in the main rounds.
