Biomedical Science

Join us for a first-hand experience in our $100m state-of-the-art La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science and discover some of the skills you will develop to equip you for diverse roles, here and around the world.  You can even use this degree as a pathway into postgraduate studies in allied health fields such as physiotherapy and speech pathology*.

Mick Malthouse

Join La Trobe University Vice Chancellor’s Fellow Michael Malthouse, as he discusses how contemporary leadership and teamwork can achieve results. Mr Malthouse will share life lessons that transcend the sporting field and are highly relevant for modern businesses and leaders.

After retiring as a professional football player, due to injury in 1983, Mr Malthouse went on to become a leading figure in the sector.
Known for his dedication, professionalism and inspirational leadership he has led teams to multiple premiership victories and is remembered as one of the all-time masters of the game.

Networking Technology

The world around us is intricately connected, so how do you fit in? In this workshop, we'll take you behind the scenes to discover how major companies, including CSIRO, deliver large-scale network infrastructure.

This interactive workshop digs deeper into the technology connecting our world, and you'll come away with an insight as to how the internet and data communication networks operate.

Nursing and Midwifery

Gain an understanding of some of the skills required by nurses and midwives in clinical practice.

Experience a simulated clinical ward environment, where you can take part in caring for a ‘sim’ patient and interact with a range of equipment our students use as they train to become a Registered Nurse.

Experience the skills that undergraduate midwifery students learn as they prepare for clinical practice. You'll even have the chance to be the midwife at a simulated birth and help with the immediate care of the newborn.

Prosthetics and Orthotics

This workshop will introduce you to the working environment of the profession of the Prosthetist/Orthotist (P&O).

The session will outline what prosthetics and orthotics is, what a P&O does, how to get into the program, course structure, and career opportunities available for graduates.

Physiotherapy

For those with an interest in rehabilitation, sport and recovery, this session is a must. You'll find out about the many different types of movement disorders treated by physiotherapists who deal with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Robotics

Robotics is one of the fastest-growing fields of engineering and is changing the world as we know it.

This workshop puts you in the driver’s seat: take control of an assortment of robots and mechatronic systems designed by La Trobe students and staff. Discover how robots are revolutionising everything from medicine through to cleaning.

DESCRIPTION

Anatomy

Designed to help you gain a better understanding of how the body works by looking at how we breathe, this interactive workshop gives you access to skeletons, models, x-rays and, for those who are interested, cadaveric specimens (i.e. dissected human bodies).

Please note, you have the option to visit the cadavers’ lab after the session, but you may also opt out.

Animal and Veterinary Bioscience

If you love animals and want a career devoted to providing them with the best in health care, then this degree is ideal. The best part is that La Trobe University has its very own animal sanctuary onsite. Join us at the workshop to find out more.

Application Development

In an information-driven society, how can you get into the driver’s seat? Our department will show you how with an interactive workshop centred around the technologies that are changing our lives and the skills necessary to be employed by the likes of Apple, HP, Facebook and Google.

You'll see how new mobile applications are developed and have the opportunity to develop a real app. Find out how we support your career aspirations through teaching, hands on laboratory experience, research and industry collaboration.

Please note: this workshop covers two sessions. The Hospital is a short drive from our Melbourne campus, and we’ll be providing bus transport to and from the workshop.

Orthoptics

If you have an interest in eyes, then look no further! A workshop in two parts, providing a brief introduction to Orthoptics, followed by hands-on activities assessing vision, colour vision and even some retinal photography. Learn more by attending the session!

Paramedicine

This session will test your ability to think quickly and choose wisely – all the while pitting your team against the clock to 'save lives'.

You’ll be presented with actual medical images and scenarios, throwing you into the challenge of making life-saving decisions appropriate for each case.

Physics

Come and explore the enormous potential of sound waves; see sinister goo driven by huge sub-woofers, robots that can outsmart people, and much more! All you need to bring along is a sense of adventure.

Politics and International Relations

Change the world by influencing policy, managing international relations, or working with a global aid organisation.

Learn about the complex relationships between governments determine wars, trade, travel and the sharing of knowledge, and find out how understanding politics can help you excel in a global career.

Psychology

Learn about the many topics that interest psychologists and how you can become a psychologist. You’ll discover psychology is much more than the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, and includes the study of personality, emotion, learning, memory, thinking, language and more.

This workshop will cover occupational therapy strategies to aid recovery along with the implementation of programs to help the patient improve concentration, memory and communication skills during their recovery.

As the world becomes increasingly digitised, the demand for cyber security experts is continually growing.

In this session you'll learn about the world of online security while also participating in the Cyber Security War Games. Please note, this degree is planned to be available for enrolment in 2018.

Gender, Sexuality & Diversity Studies, Sustainability & Development & Anthropology

Study the ways identity shapes and is shaped by politics, society, culture, knowledge and power. Explore relationships between gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, disability, age and nation and identity. Develop skills in analysis, critical thinking, writing and interpreting data.
