Postgraduate by coursework

Studying by coursework means you'll come into contact with diverse opinions and perspectives through lectures, tutorials and assignments. Here's how to apply:

​Step 1: Check your eligibility by reading the 'Prerequisite' section for your ​course.

Step 2: Check the 'How to apply' section for your course to download any supplementary application forms, then Apply online. Please note: some courses only accept applications through VTAC/UAC.

Step 3: After enrolment, apply for credit (advanced standing) for any post-secondary study you've already completed by lodging an Application for Advanced Standing [PDF 1.8MB].

Missed the closing date?

Postgraduate coursework applications usually close between October and February each year. If you miss the closing date, contact us as your faculty may accept late applications.

Postgraduate by research

Our exceptional postgraduate staff-to-student ratio to means you'll have the academic support you need to excel in your postgraduate studies. Here's how to apply:

Step 1: Check your eligibility. To apply for Master's, you need an Honours degree or Master's Preliminary. To apply for a PhD you need a Master's or a Bachelor's degree with Honours, usually with a result of at least H2A.

Step 2: Contact a potential academic supervisor to discuss your topic.

Step 3: Download and submit the Higher Degree Research Candidature and Scholarship Application Form [PDF 131Kb].

Step 4: Download the academic reference template [Word 262KB], send the template to your academic referees and ask them to forward their completed referee report directly to La Trobe at teamsrgso@latrobe.edu.au.

Closing dates

You can apply for postgraduate study by research at any time, but applications for research scholarships close on 31 October for local applicants, and 30 September for international students.
