Student contributions
Paying your student contribution
If you're an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa you can choose from two payment options.
You can defer the amount of your student contribution by using HECS-HELP, a government loan, and repay the loan via your taxes when your income reaches the government-set threshold (which varies slightly each year). HECS-HELP is available to eligible students enrolled in CSPs. It can cover all or part of your student contribution, and is available for seven years' equivalent full-time study. Read more about student contribution rates for 2010.
Alternatively, you can pay the full amount of your contribution up-front, or pay 80% of the total, or make a partial payment ($500 or more), and receive a 20% discount.
New Zealand citizens and permanent residents (other than those with an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) must pay the student contribution up-front each semester, without discount.
You can read more about HECS-HELP at the Going to Uni website. For more information, contact the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations on 1800 020 108.
