Work Experience Program

La Trobe University's work experience program for secondary students offers a wide range of placements at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus.

You can see information about current placements in the 2008 Work Experience Program booklet; see below for information about the types of placements available and booking details.

We welcome enquiries from students, parents and teachers; simply contact the Work Experience Coordinator if you have questions about any aspect of the program.

What sort of positions are available?

Some are in office work, some in outdoor/physical work, and others offer a combination of both. Whatever you choose, your placement will give you a real taste of what it's like to work in a specific field, and you'll develop some great skills in the process.

The placements are categorised within seven general fields:

  • artistic/creative
  • clerical/administrative
  • community service
  • manual/practical
  • outdoor
  • scientific
  • technical
How do I arrange a placement?

Booking is easy:

  1. Read the 2008 Work Experience Program booklet.
  2. Choose a position that meets your particular interests and skills (you can choose more than one). Be sure to note any special requirements - e.g. the need to attend an interview, or to wear protective clothing during the placement.
  3. Call the Work Experience Coordinator to verify availability and make a booking. Please let us know at this point if you have any special circumstances or needs, such as a medical condition, disability, or request for variation in hours of work.
  4. Send a completed Work Experience Arrangement Form to the Work Experience Coordinator within two weeks of booking.

When we confirm your booking, we'll send the form back to your school, and send you all the information you need for your placement.

Do I get paid?

Yes - you'll be paid $5 per day.

Important information
  • We only accept bookings for specified individual students; we don't accept open bookings.
  • La Trobe University reserves the right to terminate or withdraw a work experience placement should circumstances require.
  • A member of school staff should visit each student during their placement.
