Undergraduate and postgraduate coursework scholarships

Academic Excellence Scholarships ($10,000 - $20,000)

La Trobe's Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES) cover tuition fees for high-achieving international students accepted into our undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. Worth between $10,000 and $20,000, these scholarships are paid across a maximum of two semesters (or 12 months).

If you receive this scholarship, you still need to pay for any difference in fees for your first two semesters, fees for the rest of your course, and your Overseas Student Health Cover.

Who is eligible?

You must be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and be applying to start an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program. You must also have scored 85% or equivalent in your previous degree/award, and meet our English language and academic entry requirements. You are not eligible if you are starting a Higher Degree by Research, exchange program, Study Abroad program, ELICOS and Foundation Studies program, or Diploma course.

La Trobe College Excellence Scholarships

Do you have an excellent academic record? Apply for a La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship and receive up to a 25% reduction on your course fees.

La Trobe University values academic excellence. If you are a high-achieving international student and thinking about applying for a full fee paying place in undergraduate or postgraduate study in 2017, your application will also be assessed for eligibility to receive a scholarship for the duration of your intended studies at La Trobe.

The La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship (CES) is a scholarship available to international students to cover tuition fees for high-achieving international students accepted into our undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. The scholarships are worth between 15%, 20% and 25% deduction on annual tuition fees for the duration of your studies and are limited in number.

Who is eligible?

You must be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and be applying to start an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program in 2017. You can find a list of courses eligible for the scholarship by visiting: Courses

You must meet our English language and academic entry requirements. You are not eligible if you are starting a Higher Degree by Research, exchange program, Study Abroad program, ELICOS and Foundation Studies program, or Diploma course.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • be applying to study a Higher Degree program at any La Trobe campus.
  • meet course prerequisites and have an International Baccalaureate Diploma score of at least 26 or higher (Australian Equivalency), for undergraduate studies.
  • meet course prerequisites and have a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 65 per cent or higher (Australian Equivalency), for postgraduate coursework studies.

Note:  the full range of scholarships is only available for eligible programs with normal entry requirements below an IBD of 26 or an LTU WAM of 65% and specific eligibility will require a student entry score at least 5 points above the relevant threshold.

How to apply

It’s simple, all you need to do is apply for your course, if your chosen course is eligible to receive the scholarship and you meet the course entry requirements, the Scholarship Team will consider your scholarship eligibility.

Once you receive your scholarship award letter (via email), send your scholarship and course offer acceptance letters to your Admissions Case Officer - their details and your acceptance deadline will be in your scholarship award letter.

Undergraduate and postgraduate regional campus scholarships (up to $5,000)

These scholarships offer up to $5,000 worth of tuition fees for international students studying undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs at one of our regional campuses.

Who is eligible?

You must meet the English language and academic requirements for your course, and have an unconditional offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at one of our regional campuses.

External scholarships

The Australia Awards scheme

This Commonwealth-funded scheme offers scholarship opportunities to international students who want to study in Australia. We host students from the Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships scheme, which also offers non-qualification based fellowship opportunities. Find out more at the Australia Awards website.

Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships

These are internationally competitive and merit-based awards that allow citizens from the Asia Pacific, Asia, Middle East, Europe and the Americas to study in Australia. Find out more at the Department of Education and Training.

Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER)

The Council funds scholarships of $50,000 in tuition fees for an international students commencing undergraduate studies in a business school or faculty of an Australian university. There is one scholarship per calendar year and the first year of award is 2014, and the scholarship is paid at a maximum of $12,500 per semester over two to three years.

Who is eligible?

  • International students.
  • Students undertaking an undergraduate course (commerce, economics, accounting etc) in a business faculty or school at an Australian university.
  • Students with the highest results achieved in the International Student Admissions Test (ISAT).

El Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACyT) provide a number of scholarships every year for students undertaking Master's by research or PhD programs at La Trobe. Find out more at the CONACyT website.

The State Government of Victoria – in partnership with Victorian universities – offers six scholarships for PhD candidates at Victorian universities. Each scholarship is worth $90,000 for the duration of your PhD. Find out more at the Study Melbourne website.

Fellowships

Australia Awards Endeavour Research Fellowships

These fellowships are for students and professionals from countries throughout the Asia Pacific, Asia, Middle East, Europe and the Americas to undertake short-term research or professional development at Australian institutions.

Students on Endeavour Research Fellowships (including Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong and AIEC Research Fellowships) can work towards a Master's degree or PhD with a host institution in Australia for a period of four to six months.

Student on Endeavour Executive Fellowships can undertake a professional development project with a host institution in Australia for a period of one to four months.
