Step-by-step guide

Step-by-step guide to undergraduate enrolment 2009 (for Australian citizens and Permanent Residents)

Round 1 offers are available through VTAC on 15 January 2009.

Step 1: Receive your offer and enrolment package

If you're accepted to a La Trobe course through VTAC, they will send you a letter of offer and ask you to attend an enrolment session at the relevant La Trobe campus on a nominated date.

If you're accepted to a course at La Trobe's Albury-Wodonga or Mildura campuses through UAC (ACT and NSW), they will send a letter of offer and alternative enrolment instructions for you to follow.

Your letter of offer will tell you when and where to enrol.

Your enrolment package will arrive in the mail a few days after your letter of offer, with forms to read and check, details about your course and timetable, and a copy of the Enrolment Guide for La Trobe University 2009. You'll find campus maps in the guide to help you find the enrolment venue. Parking is free on enrolment days.

Step 2: Prepare for enrolment day

You can use this page as a checklist to ensure you bring everything you need on enrolment day. If you forget necessary documents, your enrolment may be delayed.

You MUST supply a certified copy of ONE of the following:

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Current Firearms Licence
  • Passport
  • Proof of Age card
  • Full Birth Certificate or any other documentation issued via the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages, EXCLUDING extracts.

And you'll of course need your:

  • Enrolment form, and
  • Enrolment guide

You should also bring:

  • Your Tax File Number - if you don't have this you should complete a 'Tax File Number Application or Enquiry Form', available online at www.ato.gov or by calling the Personal Tax Infoline on 13 28 61
  • Request for 'Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP' form if you plan to apply for government support
  • Scholarship offer letter (if applicable)
  • Academic transcripts for prior studies, if you want to apply for Advanced Standing
  • Survey of New Undergraduate Students 2009
  • Your course timetable

It's also a good idea to bring one or two pens and snacks or lunch, or money for food, and a bottle of water.

Step 3: Enrol in your course and get your student ID card

When you arrive at the enrolment centre, you'll find course staff on hand to help you choose subjects, and to discuss credit for previous study and similar issues. Once you've completed your enrolment form, we'll direct you to other staff who'll process your paperwork.

After this, you'll be directed to a card station to have your photo taken. If you enrol at the Melbourne (Bundoora) or Bendigo campus, you can get your student ID card on the day. If you're enrolled at another campus, you'll have to wait a little longer - we'll tell you when you'll be able to collect your card.

Shortly after you've enrolled, you'll receive an official confirmation of enrolment in the post - make sure you keep this in a safe place as a formal record.
