Postgraduate courses

If you already have a degree and you're considering postgraduate study via coursework or research, visit CourseFinder for detailed information on admission requirements for your chosen postgraduate course. General information follows.

Masters by Research/Doctorates

If you're a local applicant, you can submit an application for research candidature at any time.

To apply for Doctoral candidature, you should already have a Master's degree or a Bachelor degree with Honours, with a high level of achievement. To apply for Master's candidature, you should have an Honours degree or Master's Preliminary.

Once you've spoken with a potential supervisor and received in-principle approval for your topic, simply download an application form from La Trobe's Research and Graduate Studies Office webpage.

Further information on research candidature and application procedures.

Postgraduate coursework programs

If you're a local applicant, you can apply to postgraduate coursework programs via La Trobe's direct application form (PDF 170kb).
Please note: some courses require supplementary information - the application form provides details, but if you're unsure please contact the relevant Faculty.

Applications usually close between late October and late January each year; you'll find application deadlines in CourseFinder. But if you miss the closing date it's a good idea to see whether the relevant Faculty or School will accept a late application. Phone 1300 135 045 for information.

If you're an international applicant, you'll need to follow a slightly different process. Please visit La Trobe International for details.
