Tertiary Information Service (TIS)

What or who is TIS?

The Tertiary Information Service (TIS) was established over 25 years ago as a cooperative and cost effective venture between Victorian Universities and TAFE Institutes. The primary aim of the service is to provide a comprehensive program of advice regarding tertiary study options to the maximum number of Year 12 students throughout Victoria each year.

What can TIS provide my Year 12 students?

Participating in a TIS event will give your students access to a wide range of universities, TAFEs and other providers. Students will be provided with vital information in a relaxed and user-friendly environment in their local area.

Students will be provided with the opportunity to speak individually with institutional representatives, which will prompt and motivate them into thinking more widely and carefully about tertiary education options and empower students to undertake confident decision making in reference to their future.

Topics include:

  • Choosing courses
  • VTAC application procedures
  • The differences between University, TAFE and other providers
  • Finance and Accommodation
  • Transition
  • Selection
  • Pre-requisites and Extra requirements
Will La Trobe attend TIS events in my region?

La Trobe Univeristy will attend all TIS events in both regional and metropolitan Victoria between March and August 2008.

Staff will provide a wide range of advice regarding courses and facilities at all La Trobe campuses.

If you have any queries please give us a call 1300 135 045.

What do I do if I want my school to participate?

You will need to contact the Event Coordinator in your region. Event Coordinators are based at Universities and/or TAFE institutes. They usually make contact with Careers Teachers through careers networks to negotiate the style and format of an event.

TIS members endeavor to cover a number of geographic centers within each region and events take place from March through to August each year.

See the 2008 TIS Calendar for event dates and coordinating institutions.
