Subject outline

Student undertakes a semester-long research or development project related to his or her major studies under the guidance of an academic supervisor. At the end of the semester, the student must present a seminar and submit a formal written report on the project. Capstone experiences will complement those in SCI3AAT, but will also serve students who have not taken that subject.

Special conditions Specific project availability in any one year depends on staff availability and loads. Students will need to enter discussions with potential supervisors in the semester prior to undertaking their project.

01. Plan and execute independent research or developmental work relating to a supervised science discipline of choice.

Activities:
Organise regular meetings with a supervisor to discuss work completed and plan ongoing tasks. Maintain a laboratory journal. Execute research with supervision.

Write two draft reports to obtain feedback, before writing the final report.

03. Critically evaluate scientific literature relating to an area of research.

04. Formally present to an audience of peers and academics the findings of an independent piece of research.

Activities:
Deliver an oral presentation relating to the completed project. Assess several other presentations.
