Subject outline

This subject's primary focus will be on the personal development aspect of group process, rather than on training students to facilitate a group. Topics covered may include: questions about safety, the role of discomfort in therapeutic change, disclosure, confidentiality, witnessing, the importance of the present moment in therapy, 'self as therapist', the interplay between cognition, emotion and intuition, and interpersonal and psychodynamic impacts what is said (and not said) in a group setting. Class activities and assignments help extend learning covering such issues as distinguishing different kinds of groups, the therapeutic value of groups, and the dynamics of group processes.
