In this subject you will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills to complex and dynamic patient situations. Through lectures, online activities, workshops, clinical skills laboratories and clinical placement, you will focus on assessment and interventions aimed at arresting sudden deterioration of a patient's health. The clinical practicum will allow you to experience high acuity care settings and assume the responsibility of caring for individuals with time critical needs. To achieve the learning outcomes of this subject you will be expected to complete a range of written, verbal and clinical assessments within a 12-week period.

Activities:
Online resources with examples of common conditions that result in sudden deterioration of an individual's condition. Workshops using case studies to explore interrelationships between a variety of conditions in the same individual. Clinical Practicum.

Activities:
Online resources detailing the monitoring and maintenance of patients experiencing common condition leading to sudden deterioration. Workshops using case scenarios to discuss required monitoring and maintenance interventions. Debate: Suggested topic. "Organ donation: A right or a privilege?" Clinical Practicum.

Online resources demonstrating the complexity of sudden deterioration via video interviews with experienced nurses and a range of health professionals. Clinical Practicum. Simulation workshops where students work in teams to manage a variety of emergency scenarios. Role play with peers to develop awareness of complex communication scenarios and practice of relevant strategies.
