Subject outline

This subject of study is an introduction to the theory and practice of the substance and procedure of international criminal law. The subject will cover major core international crimes including: genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes and the forms of individual criminal liability and command responsibility for these crimes. International criminal law will be taught using the case law and case studies from international courts including: the post WWII International Military Tribunals in Nuremberg and Tokyo; the ad hoc Tribunals relating to atrocities in Yugoslavia and Rwanda; the mixed tribunals dealing with crimes committed in Cambodia and East Timor and the Permanent International Criminal Court.
