Subject outline

In this subject students will consolidate language skills acquired in VCE Japanese (Second Language)or Japanese Beginners 1001 & 1002 (BE1 & BE2) (La Trobe University). Using a range of task-based communicative activitiesstudents develop interpersonal skills and theability to talk about their identity, education, family and lifestyle in contemporary Japanese. Approximately 350+ vocabulary items and 100 kanji are taught to augment students' Japanese spoken and written proficiency. Students will also be taught increasingly complicated but essential grammatical patterns. It is recommended that student take AST1IJI and AST1ICI with this subject.

Activities:
A study-buddy approach is used systematically and teams and groups are organized in class to ensure homework and assessments are manageable and completed.

07. Developing awareness of the importance of socio-cultural skills and how Japanese communicate socio-linguistically.

Activities:
This is taught with real-life examples, discussion of etiquette and video clips. In preparation for visitor sessions too, socio-cultural tips are passed on and practised.
