Subject outline

In this subject, students will further develop their health information practice knowledge and skills through engagement in supervised professional practice placements in healthcare and related agencies across the whole-of-health. The purpose of the subject is to enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to practice, and to consolidate learnings from previous professional practice placements. Students will undertake 45 days of placement and complete a range of academic assessments. Regular contact with University supervisors is maintained during placements via telephone, email and on-site visits.

02. Analyse the processes for the collection and application of health information for clinical and other purposes at agency level.

03. Critically reflect on current theory and practice and evaluate processes across health care agencies translating knowledge into new contexts.

Written investigative report, contribution to on-line discussions and completion of a placement journal and reflective practice assignment; post placement debriefing interview with academic supervisor

04. Integrate skills in project and time management including development and achievement of objectives, ability to work autonomously and to demonstrate initiative in work practice.

Documentation in placement journal, including development of objectives and evidence of placement-related project planning and execution.

05. Interrogate health data through extraction and analysis (including ICD-10-AM coding according to state and national protocols.)
