Subject outline

Human communication and swallowing evolve across the lifespan. Through lectures, workshops, transcription and analysis of language samples, and the development of new resources for the community, you will learn about the different elements of human communication and swallowing. You will explore the underlying neurological, cognitive, perceptual, sensory and motor components that support communication and swallowing. You will be able to describe how communication and swallowing abilities develop from infancy through to old age and understand the factors that influence this development. This knowledge will provide you with a sound foundation to understand the scope of practice of speech pathology and audiology.
