Subject outline

In this subject, students will learn about ethics, law and management in the Australian context, and how they will influence, or be the focus of, their practice as health professionals. An understanding of ethics, law and management pertaining to the fields of health care and public health is important for students studying in diverse professional areas including health promotion, public health, allied health, paramedicine, nursing, dentistry, occupational health and environmental health. Using contemporary resource materials, case studies and online peer to peer discussions, students will develop an understanding of fundamental concepts in the fields of ethics, law and management; gain experience in researching and discussing ethical, legal and managerial aspects of their practice as health professionals; and acquire basic skills in fundamental areas of management and in applying ethical principles.
