Subject outline
This is the second of two subjects that investigate the Directorial Mode of still photography. Deliberately staged scenarios that may project an internal, poetic reality invite consideration of the fictional nature of the photographic image and the activation of tension between a constructed truth and and the optically literal image that expresses it. Assignments, theoretical research and folio production explore the narrative potential of a cinematic sequence of still images produced in digital, analogue or hybrid modes. Students are encouraged to participate in regular group gallery visits to Melbourne. A DSLR camera is required. VPA3DM1 is a pre-requisite for this subject.
