SOCIAL WORK RESEARCH A

SWP3REA

2016

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

In this subject students will undertake an exploration of social work research methods for practice. The overall research process, from developing questions to sampling and data analysis, will be examined. Research design and methodological critique are central, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as understanding the philosophical and sociological basis informing these methods. Class discussions, enquiry-based and value-based, and interactive forms of student-centred learning are undertaken in lectures and tutorials; active participation and preparation are required. Students will then be able to develop a literature review and demonstrate a sound understanding of methods, as applied to social work practice contexts.
