STC5MSI

2016

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

In an increasingly complex, interconnected and globalised world, Issue Management continues to be seen as a prominent practice for organisations ever more aware of public sentiment, reputation protection and the preservation of public trust. Examining issue management across government, NFP and business, the course will examine techniques and strategies for understanding the potential for issues to emerge from both expected and unexpected events. The course will consider formal strategies and techniques which provide effective planning for and responses to these issues, with the guiding principle of harm reduction and the maintainence of public confidence, trust and safety. While attention will be given to recent forms of issue management such as, online social media hate campaigns, it will also consider the historical foundations of this field and the ongoing challenges which each historical and cultural situation provides.
