Subject outline
In this subject students will be introduced to dental anatomy including the human deciduous and permanent dentitions, tooth histology and the tooth nomenclatures used in clinical practice. The anatomy of the head and neck and oral cavity will also be covered. There will a series of lectures on basic embryology of the orofacial region, including how teeth form. In addition the subject will cover bacteriology, virology, mycology and immunology pertinent to dentistry and oral health. The microbiological basis to caries and periodontal disease will also be covered.
